“We must stop this generational cycle of underdeveloped mental and emotional skills as it is one of the deepest roots of social suffering “ (Livi Redden, Ted Talk)

My motivational motto is “if you fear or find something distressing, face it. I have had it in my phone background image, and it remains me that stepping into discomfort area can help me become the person I aspire to be. Not the version shaped by my past experiences, but the one I truly desire. That’s also the reason why I write this essay in English. I’m pushing myself  out of my comfort zone because I want to learn and grow in my ability to communicate in English.

I experienced a motivational moment when I listened to Livi Redden TED Talk. She expressed concerns about the youth, many of whom struggle with life’s big questions. Making decisions can be daunting, as fear often stands in the way. Emotional skills often referred to as  “soft skills” are crucial in navigating these challenges. Cultivating emotional intelligence allows us to embrace our humanity, authenticity, and let our true selves shine in a way that feels genuine.

Self-development is challenging because it requires both mental and emotional skills, which not everyone has been taught in childhood. Many parents struggle to address and manage emotions, especially negative ones. Redden shared the story of her father, who sacrifice his life to pursuit of financial success equating with peace. However, Redden, like myself, believes that life should not revolve around money, reputation or power. The true purpose of life lies in being present and confronting our emotions.

Presence offers us the opportunity to confront our emotions and work through them. By doing so, we can start to change our thoughts, beliefs, actions and communication patterns, ultimately shaping the life we desire.

Living our dream life requires alignment between our mindset and actions. Without this alignment, it’s possible to achieve our dreams.

Redden offers valuable advice: start being intuitive and intentional as soon as possible. Don’t wait for a crisis to push you towards growth. Take radical responsibility as soon as possible as this is where joy and fulfillment are born.

I intuitively decided to apply to Proakatemia and I have no regrets about that decision. Life doesn’t have to be so serious all the time. Follow your instincts and do what feels right to you. If you are unsure, take actions anyway. Make decisions for yourself, not for others.
