HL7 has several versions, with HL7 V2 being the most implemented but considered less interoperable, and HL7 V3 being more robust and consistent but more difficult to implement. It’s important to note that “HL7” usually refers to V2, as it’s more commonly used.

FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources)

FHIR (pronounced “fire”) is a standard developed by HL7 for exchanging healthcare information electronically. It leverages several modern web standards such as RESTful APIs, OAuth for authorization, and HTTP(S) for communication. FHIR was designed with the complexity of healthcare data in mind, and has a modular approach based on “resources”. Each resource addresses a specific healthcare concept, such as a patient, a doctor, a medication, etc.

Impact on the Medical Economic Chain
