Environmental labelling

Environmental labeling is the general definition of a new era of environmental standards. It is a means of measuring performance and communicating and marketing the environmental credentials of a given product. This kind of tool encourages the behavioral change of producers and consumers toward long-term sustainability.

There are some examples of environmental labeling.

1.Sweden

KRAV is a label for organic food, produced without artificial chemical pesticides. It can be found in places where food is handled and produced, such as grocery stores, restaurants, fishing boats, etc. The food labeled with KRAV is good for the environment, health, and climate.

2.Finland

LUOMU is a quality system for food production. It combines the practice with environment and climate, rich biodiversity, the conversation of natural resources, animal welfare, and food produced from organic ingredients and using natural methods.

3. Nordic

The Nordic Swan Ecolabel, one of the world’s toughest environmental certifications, was established in 1989. It is an environmental labeling scheme certifying that a product or service complies with the requirements for the label. This ecolabeling scheme is the official ecolabel of Nordic countries, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. Its purpose is to establish a voluntary Nordic labeling system that helps reduce the environmental impact of consumption in Nordic countries.

4. China

China Environmental Labelling is the highest standard certificate in China. It indicates that the product not only meets quality standards but also complies with specific environmental requirements, offering environmental advantages such as lower toxicity, reduced harm, and resource, and energy conservation compared to similar products. Certified product categories include office equipment, building materials, household appliances, daily necessities, office supplies, automobiles, furniture, textiles, and footwear, among others.

5. Singapore

Singapore General Labelling is organized by the Singapore Environmental Council. This label helps consumers make informed choices about the products they buy. It may include information such as product ingredients, nutritional facts, safety warnings, country of origin, and other relevant details. The goal of Singapore General Labelling is to promote transparency and ensure that consumers have access to essential information when making a purchasing decision.

6. America

EPEAT labeling is the premier global ecolabel for electronics and technology products. EPEAT is based on criteria that evolve as sustainability evolves – measuring the social and environmental impacts of products from extraction to end-of-life. Thus, this is not only an electronic product environmental assessment tool (EPEAT), but also a method for purchasers (governments, institutions, consumers, etc.) to evaluate the effect of a product on the environment. It assesses various lifecycle environmental aspects of a device and ranks products as Gold, Silver or Bronze based on a set of environmental performance criteria, such as computers, imaging equipment, mobile phones, televisions, etc.

The collection of ecolabels from various countries presents a comprehensive overview of the global landscape of environmental certification and sustainability standards. The diversity of ecolabels reflects the growing awareness and commitment to environmental protection and responsible consumption practices across different regions.

People can gain insights into the wide array of criteria used to assess products’ environmental performance and sustainability attributes through compiling these ecolabels. This compilation serves as a valuable resource for businesses, consumers, and policymakers seeking to make informed decisions that promote environmental stewardship and support sustainable development goals on a global scale. Therefore, by learning about various eco-labels, customers and businesses worldwide will be encouraged to put more effort into making contributions to sustainability.
