 “Atomic Habits,” written by James Clear, dives into the importance of small habits and how they shape our behavior. This book provides valuable insights and practical advice to help people develop positive habits easily. If you could only pick one book to read about habits, “Atomic Habits” would be the top choice. 

The term “Atomic habits” refers to the idea of making small improvements, often just 1%, which can have a significant impact on our lives. This concept is crucial for determining success or failure, prosperity or poverty, and excellence or weakness. 

James Clear emphasizes that habits are more than just repetitive actions; they reflect who we are. They are influenced by our thoughts, preferences, and lifestyles, making them unique to everyone. While “Atomic Habits” is a thorough guide on how to develop habits that align with our goals, it is important to understand that it is not a quick fix. Transformation takes time and effort. Instead, think of it as a roadmap, guiding us toward personal growth and fulfillment. 

We selected “Atomic Habits” because it is super helpful for both our personal lives and our journey as entrepreneur students. As students aiming to become entrepreneurs, we know we need discipline, resilience, and always strive to get better. That is where “Atomic Habits” comes in. This book is like a guidebook for people like us who want to excel in entrepreneurship. It talks about making small improvements every day, which fits perfectly with the idea of always trying to improve in business. By following the advice in “Atomic Habits,” we can shape our mindset to be more successful in the entrepreneurial world. What is great about this book is how easy it is to understand. James Clear, the author, uses simple language that anyone can grasp. So even if we are new to the whole idea of building good habits, we can still learn a lot.  



What we particularly enjoy about this book is how it sheds light on behavioral psychology and the role of habits in shaping our lives. It does not just offer theory; it also provides practical tips for applying these concepts in real life. This has given us a fresh perspective on habits and how they can be used to change our personalities. The book introduces simple, easy-to-implement strategies that we can start using right away. For example, specifying the time and place for a habit can boost the likelihood of following through by up to 70%. Additionally, the book has made us rethink the power of making small improvements each day. We were surprised to learn that even a 1% change can have a significant impact, as shown by the mathematical equation below: 

1 + 1% = 1.01  

1.1 ^ 365 = 37.78 times  

This indicates that simply being 1% better than yesterday can result in a 37-fold improvement over a year. Conversely, if someone declines by 1% daily instead of striving for improvement, the consequences are difficult to fathom. It is truly daunting to consider. 

We feel truly inspired by the quote: “If you want to master a habit, the key is to start with repetition, not perfection,” by James Clear. This quote resonates with us because it emphasizes the importance of consistency and persistence in habit formation, rather than striving for flawless execution from the outset.  

Especially when starting a new habit, it is important to recognize that the first six months may not yield clear results. While the initial six months may only show a 6-fold improvement from 1% progress, a breakthrough often occurs in the subsequent six months, where improvement can skyrocket to 31 times. This underscores the critical period of the first six months, during which discouragement and the temptation to give up are most likely to arise. Understanding this, we should refrain from hastily abandoning our efforts after only two to three months of starting. 

We reflected on Finnish winters, where snow and ice blanket the landscape. When temperatures rise gradually by just 1-2 degrees per day, it is challenging to discern any immediate difference in the melting snow and ice. However, as the temperature continues to climb steadily each day, a moment arrives when suddenly, we notice a significant transformation: the once white roads are now clear, revealing patches of green grass beneath. This analogy underscores the incremental nature of change, highlighting how consistent efforts over time can lead to profound and noticeable results. 

We totally agree that every little good action we take today brings us nearer to our end goal. This boosts our confidence in making the right decisions and allows us to find joy in creating and constructing something. By concentrating on the process rather than solely on the outcome, we relieve ourselves from the stress of achieving immediate results. Understanding this frees our minds from the burden of feeling like we must succeed. When we take pleasure in the journey, it becomes easier to sustain a consistent habit and achieve or maintain something. 


Implementing Atomic Habits in Our Personal Lives – Practical Examples and Insights 

In our own life, “Atomic Habits” by James Clear has been a transformative guide in shaping our personal and professional development. Upon reading the book, we immediately recognized its relevance and began implementing its principles to enhance various aspects of our lives. 

One specific habit we successfully implemented after reading the book was the practice of habit stacking. This concept involves pairing a new habit with an existing one to make it easier to adopt. For instance, both of us were eager to track our habit of allocating time for learning Finnish but found ourselves procrastinating and struggling to get started. However, we were determined to overcome this hurdle. We realized that accountability and mutual support could be the key to success. Therefore, we decided to schedule a video call and study together. Initially, we committed to dedicating just 15 minutes each day to our learning goal. This short, manageable time made it easier for us to begin and build momentum. As we consistently stuck to our daily study sessions, we gradually found ourselves falling into a rhythm. Soon enough, studying for 5 minutes became a natural part of our daily routine. Encouraged by our progress, we felt motivated to extend our study sessions. Over time, we increased the duration to more than 30 minutes, a significant accomplishment compared to our initial efforts. This experience taught us the power of accountability, consistency, and starting small when forming new habits. By leveraging the insights from “Atomic Habits,” we were able to turn our intention into action and transform our learning goal into a sustainable habit. 

However, implementing these habits was challenging for both of us. One obstacle we encountered was consistency. Initially, we found it challenging to stick to our new habits every day, especially when faced with unexpected disruptions or busy schedules. To address this, we focused on building a supportive environment conducive to habit formation. For instance, we set reminders on our phones to prompt us to engage in our new habits, and we enlisted the support of our families to hold us accountable. Additionally, we made a pact to keep each other accountable. 

We realized that “Atomic Habits” can bring about positive changes in our lives. By putting its principles into practice and integrating new habits into our daily routines, we have noticed real improvements in our productivity, focus, and overall well-being. Through consistent effort and determination, we continue to refine and adjust our habits, aiming for ongoing growth and success in both our personal and professional lives. 



This book serves as a key to breaking free from psychological barriers, paving the way for us to undertake small, positive actions, accumulate skills, and ultimately achieve success. By persistently engaging in small acts of goodness, we lay the foundation for significant accomplishments in the future. Believing in our endeavors and exerting effort, we may eventually reach a critical turning point where unforeseen opportunities and rewards await us.
